With Actros launch, Mercedes-Benz introduces new standards of comfort, performance, technology and safety in Brazil

With a V6 engine of 456 cv, Actros 2646 LS 6x4 offers the greatest power of the Mercedes-Benz highway heavy trucks line in the country. This novelty increases the range of alternatives to the customers, who already have various motoring versions in the Axor line, between 326 and 428 cv.

With the launch of the heavy truck Actros 2646 LS 6x4 with a 456 cv V6 engine, Mercedes-Benz now offers the greatest power of its heavy trucks line in the country. Furthermore, it introduces in the Brazilian market, new comfort, performance, technology and safety standards for the freight transport. This novelty is one of the main attractions of the brand in the International Transport Show – Fenatran 2009, to be held in Anhembi, São Paulo, from October 26 to 30.

The offer of a new power range within the Mercedes-Benz highway heavy trucks line increases the range of options to the customers, who already have various motoring versions of the Axor line, between 326 and 428 cv.

“The freight transports in the Country are in development, and the companies of this sector are becoming more and more professionalized and specialized. A more demanding level of specific products and advanced solutions exist, and these demands are fully met by Actros. This high technology truck is adequate to the freight transport potential and to the different logistic operations that exist in the country”, states Tânia Silvestri, Marketing and Dealers Network Development Director of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil.

Produced in Germany, Actros 2646 LS brings to Brazil a series of advanced technologies, such as the fully automated gear, without clutch pedal, lane keep assist system, proximity (distance) control system, hill assist and dynamic brake assist, as well as ABS, ASR and retarder. Further to the modern technology the new highway Actros stands out due to its air suspension and new Mega-space cabin with totally flat floor, ensuring high level of driving comfort, what has as reflex better performance of the truck and bigger productivity of the driver.

The truck of the year

The model 2646 LS has special highlights in its launch in the Brazilian market. It is the first highway model of Actros line that arrives in Brazil with the status of “Truck of the Year 2009”, a title received in the last IAA Show of Hanover, in Germany. This prize is the result of an election among journalists specialized in transport from 21 European countries, who recognized the progress in economy, environmental compatibiity, safety and comfort afforded by its innovative technology.

With a 3,300 mm wheelbase,  Actros 2646 LS 6x4 permits the  utilization of various semi-trailers, with open dry load, panel van, sider, grains, tanks for liquids and gas and container platforms, among others. This truck is particularly appropriate for long highway distances and for multiple compositions, such as the "Bitrem" (a tractor-truck hauling two semi-trailers - with 7 axles and total combined gross weight of 57 tons) and the "Rodotrem" (a composition formed by the three units of the "bitrem" plus a dolly, with 9 axles and total combined gross weight of 74 tons). It meets the requirements of Contran's Resolution 326/09, which, establishes as compulsory, the use of double 6x4 drive in combinations with total combined gross weight of 57 tons, this regulation will be in effect from January 1st, 2011 on.

Biggest and most complete line of heavy trucks

With the new Actros, the Company widens its truck line, the biggest and most complete of the country, by offering within the heavy trucks segment, 12 basic models for highway applications and 15 for off-road operations. “With this wide and varied range of products, we have solutions for all market segments and niches, to meet the requirements of all customer profiles. Furthermore, whenever we bring novelties to the market, as it is the case of Actros, we ensure excellence for the operations of our customers, what results in bigger operational profitability”, says Tânia.

Further to the continuous professionalizing and specialization of the freight transport companies, other factors motivated Mercedes-Benz to introduce the highway truck Actros in Brazil: the improvement of the country's highway infra-structure and the growing participation of the heavy models in the market, with more than 30% of the total volume of trucks currently sold in the country.

The company is the heavy truck sales leader in the inner market, having commercialized 5,600 units from January to September this year, what means that it has a participation of 26%. This leadership is due mainly to the success of the Axor models with the customers, thanks to peculiarities such as the advanced technology, reduced operational cost and proven long durability power train.

In order to bring this new highway truck, Mercedes-Benz also considered the recent success obtained in the country by the off-road version of Actros, launched in 2008, which is known due to its technology, strength and sturdiness in the severe operation conditions of mining and heavy civil construction works.

Mercedes-Benz exhibits 12 trucks in Fenatran

Mercedes-Benz exhibits in Fenatran 12 models of its whole truck range, formed by the families Actros, Axor, Atego, Accelo as well as those of its Traditinal Line. Further to the launch of Actros 2646 LS, other novelties to be presented are: the new Axor 2535 6x2 tractor truck; the semi-automated gear for the off-road Axor line with 12 liters engine, represented in the event by the model Axor 4144 6x4; the high top cot cabin of Atego 2425 6x2; the longer wheel base version of the Sprinter 311 Street chassis plus cabin; and the Sprinter 413 20 seat van.

The world's biggest manufacturer of trucks
